Terre Bohème is an artisanal ceramics workshop based in Switzerland,
created by the French ceramist Marie Beaulaton-L'Hotellier.

My background
I am originally from Angers, France, where I grew up and studied communication.
I then lived in Biarritz for several years and worked in project management and communication until the need to put meaning back into my work pushed me to reconsider my professional activity. I needed to return to the material, to creation, to artistic work.
I decided to become a creative ceramist in 2019.
Finally daring to launch myself and express what was waiting in a corner of my mind was for me a real revelation.
I now live in Switzerland, near Basel, and I created Terre Bohème, a ceramic and pottery workshop located on the banks of the Rhine.
For several years, I trained in the techniques of pottery and glazing with different Swiss potters and I improved day after day in my workshop.
I am happy to present you the fruit of this initiatory journey and of my work.
I chose clay as my material of expression because I like its contact, its touch and the sensations it brings.
I like the idea of shaping a ball of raw clay with my hands and transforming it into a functional or decorative object, a piece that tells a story and embellishes the everyday.

My inspirations
I draw my inspiration from art, painting in particular, sculpture, but also fashion and nature... from everything that surrounds me.
I like to explore too much to lock myself in a model. I am a jack-of-all-trades, curious and like to experiment.
I imagine each of my pieces and then I let myself go, letting the piece take shape under my fingers. I discover it as I go along.
I work by instinct and I like to explore the richness of clay work, glazes and colors that I create with my own recipes.
Clay is an exciting and infinite material...
